Studio Gruhl has shed its old skin to embrace an identity that signals a new chapter in its journey

Studio Gruhl has its feet firmly planted in the present moment. The studio, which began in the bedroom of Founder Malte Gruhl, knows exactly what it wants to do – create brands that are meant to live and breathe in a digital world. This pointed intention, though, was something that brewed gently over the past few years, until Gruhl knew that this had to be reflected in the studio’s own identity. So, along with his team, set out to re-evaluate their approach, which resulted in a new mission, identity and website.  “I don’t think we have a single print execution on our new site – we’re really focused on how to build a brand for digital. How it moves and interacts are far more important than just creating another business card,” says Gruhl. The studio, he says, wants to ‘Dream More,’ an idea that pushed the rebrand. To Gruhl, this means “inviting people to open their minds, think a little bigger, and create something fresh without forcing it.” This space the team now allows itself to chop down old rules and make their own is perfectly captured in their refreshed, expressive identity, which, to the team, “resembles a modern version of a European fairy tale book,” connecting back to their intention to dream fearlessly. To dig a bit deeper, we spoke to Gruhl about their new look, and how it signals a new chapter for the studio that’s poised to build the agile, adaptive brands of tomorrow.

“I try hard to stay deliberately small right now. It makes collaboration easier.”

“Clients now mostly come to us for our aesthetic and thinking, rather than just looking for someone to get the job done.”
