A flexible serif

“Serf was born from the influence of metal typography, especially Dutch typefaces, and we wanted to translate the quality and warmth of those analogue designs within a digital context,” says Luke Prowse, Founder of NaN, about the foundry’s serif release, NaN Serf. Tailored to excel at all sizes, Serf is an answer to the foundry’s intent to add a multi-functional serif to the NaN library, which mostly consists of “much louder designs,” as Prowse describes. “We’ve always admired Dutch text typefaces, offering warm textures and open counters whilst prioritising legibility, and we wanted to have a go ourselves. We were also sure it would become an essential tool for our friends and clients.”

Finding a rhythm in chaos

“Junior role, 3-5 years experience required.” Contradictory descriptions like this in job postings are by no means new, but they’re getting concerningly more prevalent. With the goal of making “starters start and employers value their part,” Dutch initiative YoungCapital NEXT and their sister company YoungCapital support the journeys of early-career professionals who are looking to make an impact in the finance, IT, or public sectors.

SPIRAL Issue Two: Future

SPIRAL bridges the gap between American football and culture. Printed annually, each issue explores a theme that connects art, design, music and fashion with the game itself.

For its second issue, ‘future’ was dissected as the overarching theme; covering everything from the rise of the NFL, how data is redefining the way we consume the game, Fox Sports’ Cleatus, Tom Brady’s undying quest for immortality, the international voices growing the sport abroad, and the women who are spearheading the law and order of the gridiron. Issue Two also features interviews with Super Bowl champion Chris Godwin, the multidisciplinary studio PLAYLAB, southern rapper YGTUT and contemporary fashion label Our Legacy.
