More than just a coffee shop

metta offers a space for the people of Munich to meet, collaborate and engage in workshops. To help capture the experimental spirit of the brand that offers both a community space and perfectly risen gluten-free baked goods (have you seen those pillowy cinnamon buns?), metta collaborated with Berlin and Munich-based design and technology studio &why to craft a visual system that’s as open to change as the space itself.

The 2025 UK City of Culture

Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture is no exception; it is set to be a transformative event for the district, with over 1,000 new performances, events, and artist commissions planned. As the first UK City of Culture to be a district-wide celebration, it will highlight Bradford’s unique identity, its history as a textile industry hub, and its diverse population. The event will encompass the district’s 140 square miles, including the UNESCO Heritage Site Saltaire and the city of Bradford itself, the world’s first UNESCO City of Film. Its brand identity, designed by the team at Leeds-based design studio Rabbithole, breaks the mould of ‘city of culture’ branding with a visual language that steers clear of anything disingenuously sleek or pristine.

50 looks good on Moda Bagno

Moda Bagno, a furniture and home goods company based in Greece, knows a thing or two about style. With its impeccable curatorial eye, the luxury brand – which has now turned 50 – has been a tastemaker for decades. To ring in its birthday, Moda Bagno collaborated with London and Athens-based creative agency Marlon Tate to craft a celebratory campaign. The answer? A set of 50 kinetic logos that reference different styles of furniture and interior design, and also nods to Moda Bagno’s role in bringing them into Greek homes.

A show-stopping wordmark

Umanzor Laundry Management (ULM), a fast-growing, detail-oriented team, manages over ten laundromats across Los Angeles. Known for its friendly approach, the team invited LA-based graphic designer Rolando Castillo to craft an identity that encapsulates the brand’s essence and core values. In response, he created a cohesive and dynamic visual language, combining design elements to form a unique and impactful brand image.

Interviews

Play On Play

As the moniker ‘Play On Play’ fittingly indicates, the Australian creative atelier of Naomi Akikusa-Dawber and Lucy Fry are pioneers of injecting levity, joy, and expression into their work. Their creative approach has reaped dividends, amassing an illustrious clientele that spans from Melbourne Music Week to Christina Aguilera, not to mention a myriad of prestigious music and film events throughout Australia. We caught up with them for a conversation where they detailed the balance that keeps the practice thriving – from finding the sweet spot with client project workloads to the ways in which their skills and strengths complement each other. Their experiences in launching their own studio have resulted in many lessons and insights on cultivating their ideal work practices. With several years under their belts, Akikusa-Dawber and Fry cast their eyes to the future, sharing their hopes for the industry and what their own futures will look like.

Why is salary transparency important and does it actually help?

Jokker BOOK

‘Grotesque’ is a term used to describe a genre of art that means strange, mysterious, magnificent, fantastic, hideous, ugly, unpleasant, eccentric or comical. In the world of typefaces, the term is used as a classification for sans serif typefaces that originated in the late 19th century. These characteristics can be found in both a well-known comic book character and Displaay’s sans serif typeface, Jokker. The original comic book character was created in 1940 and has been known by many nicknames since then, including Prince of Pranksters, Ace of Knaves and Patient 0. This specimen book embraces the wacky world of the Joker as an iconic character from comics and playing cards, represented here by 14 styles of the Jokker typeface.
