RCA’s 2024 degree show

Recognised in the UK as one of the leading institutions for post-graduate design education and design research, the Royal College of Art’s (RCA) reputation is certainly unquestionable. And while the royal crest and storied legacy of this institution paint a traditional picture, each year brings a fresh chance to showcase the inventive, curious, and surprising spirit of its studentship in exciting new ways. Studio Koseda, led by RCA alumni Sebastian Koseda, crafted an identity for the 2024 Graduate Show that captures “both the rebelliousness and playfulness of the RCA students.”

To connect Bega’s art scene with the wider world of art, culture and ideas, the town’s existing art gallery underwent a dramatic transformation to become the South East Centre for Contemporary Art (SECCA), a conduit between the remote, beautiful region and the rest of the world. The building, which was previously closed off architecturally with a concrete wall, was opened up by adding windows and openings to the existing façade – the thoughtful work of Sibling Architecture. This architectural redevelopment marked a new chapter in the gallery's journey, driven by the director's vision for a new kind of cultural space in the region. The gallery reached out to Primary Works, a design studio based in Sydney, to craft an identity to complete this story.

Dentistry 2.0

Partnering with dentist Corbin Barry, the creative minds at Sydney-based creative studio Bandit Design Group embarked on a mission to revolutionise the dental experience, guided by the aim of shattering traditional dental stereotypes and transforming oral health into a delightful journey. “Corbin’s approach to dental care focuses not on perfect white teeth, but on strong preventative care,” shares Creative Director Mikeila Scheckenbach, which led to the name ‘Sage Space.’ “‘Sage’ means wisdom, healing, and safety, and we wanted to infuse this feeling throughout the entire brand and customer experience, making Sage Space a place that truly puts the patient first.”

Requiring a brand identity that not only encapsulated its essence but also propelled its international ambitions, they reached out to UnitedUs, a strategic brand and design agency based in Brighton, UK.

Simplicity and strength

JTK Studio, under the creative direction of New York-based designer Justin Thomas Kay, undertook the task to revolutionise the brand identity of Charney Companies. Known for their prowess in American real estate development, brokerage and management, Charney Companies needed a fresh image that captured both their creative essence and their robust leadership under Sam Charney. From the initial strategy and brand architecture to the final visualisation and implementation, JTK Studio orchestrated a comprehensive rebrand for Charney Companies. Their efforts culminated in a refreshed identity that communicates the firm’s vibrant creativity and solid, confident leadership.

What is The Future Of The Studio?

In the third chapter of The Future Of, together with Brandpad, we’re looking at the future of creative studios and teams. Will the industry lean harder towards remote work, or will designers want to return to the office? How will the make-up of creative teams change? In a few years or decades, what will be different about where, how and when designers work? We took our questions to three top studios.
