Case studies

Truly meowvelous

Studio Chong, the London and Amsterdam-based branding agency known for its bold and punchy brands, has once again struck gold with its signature approach in its project for Bendito Mockup. Tasked with bringing Bendito’s Manolo & Bendito collection – which presents the entire production and delivery journey of a product – to life, Studio Chong decided to create a conceptual brand that showcases the mockups in a fresh and exciting way.

Defying all expectations

4  RE® is an emerging startup focused on premium CBD-infused cosmetics. Made for a generation under constant stress, the brand hides hints of the potential of its products in its name. The ‘RE’ subtly nods at the essence of its range, creating ‘4  RE® BORN, 4  RE® NEWAL, 4  RE® STORE.” The number ‘4’ replaces ‘for’ – inspired by internet slang – speaking directly to the brand’s target audience’s digital culture.

To bring its cosmetics into the world, 4  RE® needed an identity and packaging design that would mirror its intention in formulating its products, which blend ancestral knowledge with modern innovation. This meeting of two worlds – of history, heritage and modern science and technology – needed to be distilled into every facet of the brand, and so it called on designer Danylo Ilchakov to flex his creative chops.

Stand out like in a sea of sameness

Based in London, Echospace is a “small but mighty” interior design company that blends deep expertise with a compassionate, values-driven approach. Eager to stand out like “a giant, inflatable pink flamingo in a sea of sameness,” Echospace collaborated with Monday Nights, a UK-based design practice, to reinvent their entire brand identity. The new look, defined by a floor plan-inspired logo and a roster of charming linocut ‘spirit animal’ icons, not only captures Echospace’s impressive approach as a practice, but also its characterful team.

Interview

British Standard Type

British Standard Type is the digital foundry from Haakon Spencer and Matthew Fenton – the design duo that’s well-renowned as the founders of the eponymous London-based studio Spencer Fenton. We had the pleasure of interviewing them back in 2021, fresh off the back of BST’s official launch, delving into their ethos and ambitious plans for the future. But at the time, their retail typefaces were only a topic of conversation, with their beautiful custom typefaces for a host of clients acting as the centrepiece of the conversation. Now, three years later, BST has a thriving catalogue of four commercially available fonts, from the Wim Crouwel-inspired Bazaine to the Jack Niblett-designed Spyre. As a result, it felt like the perfect time to catch up. What’s changed? What’s the same? And what’s next?

What is The Future Of Pricing?

Welcome to The Future Of, a series presented in collaboration with digital brand guidelines platform Brandpad. Over the course of six articles, we’re speaking to the brightest designers, studios and agencies about the future of graphic design, unspooling the ideas that will shape tomorrow. For chapter five, we speculate how, in the age of AI and globalisation, finances will change in the design industry. How is the value of creativity changing? And how will it be measured in the years to come? With the help of David Tanguy, Founder & Creative Director of Praline (a London-based design studio) and STUDIO FOCUS, and Vivek Thakker (NYC-based designer, art director, image maker and creative coder), we hypothesise what the future holds for pricing in the design industry, as well as how job roles might evolve, merge or vanish altogether.
