Case studies

Order’s up!

Fuku is a bit of an institution. The birth of the restaurant is tied to David Chang’s Momofuku Noodle Bar in East Village, where the Fuku spicy sando was first debuted, going on to quickly become a cult favourite and earning its own restaurant, Fuku. Nearly a decade after it launched, the restaurant chain was ready for a design shake-up, and it reached out to branding and design agency, Red Antler, to show them the ropes.

Between the past and the future

Erha, a wellness drink, blends ancient recipes and powerful nutraceuticals with futuristic innovation. This concoction of the past and the future is felt deeply in its design, crafted by Studio Light. “The visual approach was inspired by humanity’s drive to enhance and evolve ourselves. I combined influences from ancient Egyptian inscriptions – the earliest records of medicinal practices – with futuristic aesthetics to reflect Erha’s unique position as a bridge between the past and the future,” Designer Morgan Light tells us.

A chonky wordmark

Everything about OTTIMO’s design sings wonderfully about the quality of the brand’s extra virgin olive oil. It’s safe to say that the EVOO market has been feeling a bit busy lately, with new names popping up constantly. When SOMEKIND Studio set out to design a brand world for OTTIMO, they wanted the olive oil maker to stand out from the rest, and they did so by tapping into a rich brand story. “OTTIMO’s visual identity draws from the lively charm and everyday traditions of southern Italy. The design emphasises authenticity, capturing the warmth of shared meals, the joy of gathering, and the simplicity that defines Italian kitchens,” Co-founder Kristel Posen tells us. “Inspired by the olive tree – a staple of both the landscape and local culture – we wanted every element to celebrate everyday pleasures, cherished family traditions, and the thoughtful care behind crafting premium olive oil.”

Luxury in print

Crane Brothers has been the go-to luxury shop for men’s tailoring in New Zealand for 25 years. But their spirit is not contained by just the world of tailoring – they’re playful, and like to have a bit of fun. For as long as Crane Brothers has been online, they’ve published a digital Dispatch, Designer Liam Ooi tells us. “Succinctly described as “irregular musings from the Crane Brothers team” it offers an irreverent and infrequent catch-up on happenings and goings-on. Often, its content has little to do with clothing,” says Ooi.

A quiet beauty

One look at Ajen’s brand world, and you’re transported to the beauty of the Dutch landscapes, perhaps lying on a light-dappled patch of grass, or swimming in a quiet lake. Such is the power of the branding and art direction for the personal care brand by Rotterdam-based creative studio, The Phoney Club. A brand, as we all know, is more than the sum of its parts, and this is beautifully captured in Ajen’s brand world which creates a mood and feeling that doesn’t quite hinge on a single element of the design, but is evoked in the coming together of every little nuance that makes up the brand.

A coffee-sipping mascot

When MUI Coffee Roastery, a roasting shop based in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa, Japan began looking for a refreshed identity and packaging, they knew they wanted to work with someone with an equal reverence for and love of coffee. Who better than Italians? The roastery teamed up with Verona-based design studio Happycentro to unpack its brand story and devise an identity that perfectly captured its mastery of coffee.
