Case studies
Swapping noise for nuance
As Canada’s oldest museum and the largest in Quebec, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA) is a revered and much-loved institution. While the museum and its collection grew and evolved over the years, its identity began to lose some of its life, and MMFA realised they needed a visual pivot, one that would better reflect who it is today – an open, inclusive, and forward-thinking cultural space. They collaborated with Canadian strategy and design firm Principal to find fresh ground, and the resulting rebrand breathes new life into the cultural icon.
Embracing chaotic energy
Crypto trading platform Bullpen lives in a world of unhinged Telegram threads, manic mood swings and irreverent memes. It’s not a place for corporate suits or sanitised branding – it’s the digital equivalent of traders screaming across a chaotic floor, except they’re doing it at 2am from their phones. When the platform approached Studio Freight for a rebrand, the design team saw an opportunity to create something that would stand out in the crowded space of trading platforms by embracing the community’s authentic, sometimes absurd culture.
Green, grids and growth
Built for engineers levelling up in their careers, Coachable is a remote training platform that delivers personalised mentorship and career advancement programs through a unique pay-when-you’re-hired model. By combining structured learning with experienced guidance, they’ve created a pathway for engineers to achieve significant career growth and higher earning potential.
When Konpo, a Singapore-based full-stack design studio, was approached by Coachable for a brand refresh, “we began by zooming out, not designing, but listening,” Lead Brand Designer Jorge Rico tells us. “Coachable had strong traction, but visually, it was minimal and indistinct. That opened a clear opportunity to build not just a logo, but a full identity system that could reflect structure, energy, and results.”.
Rethinking a sports news platform
From the team with experience building media companies like Sports Illustrated, The Players’ Tribune, PUCK, Airmail, and Togethxr comes OffBall, a sports world news site that shifts focus from the game to the rich cultural tapestry surrounding it. Unlike traditional sports coverage that focuses on game statistics and match results, where sensationalism often takes centre stage, this digital-first platform strives to reframe public perception of sport and athletes in nuanced ways.
A radical education system
Sparking conversations and critical thinking are more vital than ever for children, particularly when faced with targeted algorithms, content designed to provoke, and abundant AI-generated text and imagery. And let’s not get started on how, in the US, creative programs are being cut from schools, book bans are on the rise, and disinformation spreads faster than truth…
Driven by a love of learning and seeing it as a joyful, radical act, the family-founded project Super Genius Society (SGS) is, in the founding team’s words, “positively rebellious.” Their goal is to make the humanities – often undervalued in education systems – accessible through playful design and tactile products, the look of which was devised by Otherwhere Collective.
Typefaces
F37 Ginger Mono
F37 Ginger Mono is the monospaced version of F37® Foundry’s popular F37 Ginger family, designed to maintain the original’s character while adapting letters to fixed widths. Instead of a publication, F37® Studio (the foundry’s sister design agency) created a series of nostalgic collectable sticker packs inspired by ’90s Garbage Pail Kids as a type specimen.
Sita
Order Type Foundry’s Sita superfamily, designed by Edouard Berard, is a contemporary typeface rooted in British typographic history, harmoniously pairing a Scotch Roman-inspired serif with a British grotesque-influenced sans. Both styles share a unified skeleton while maintaining distinct voices, offering a cohesive yet contrasting typographic system.
Chosmos
If you’re on the hunt for a typeface that combines weight with dynamism and energy with boldness, Chosmos might just be what you’re looking for. Described by Typozon as a typeface “born from chaos yet shaped with intent,” it balances loudness and impact with meticulous crafting. Above all else, it commands attention, making it the perfect fit for headlines, branding, packaging, and anything that needs to be eye-catching.
